The City of St. Marys operates a full-time Police Department with 15 full-time State Certified Law Enforcement Officers, four full-time Dispatchers, an Administrative Assistant who also serves as Code Enforcement Officer and Parking Enforcement Officer, an Auxiliary Police Officer Unit, and elementary School Crossing Guards. The Department provides 24-hour coverage to the citizens of our community utilizing six marked video equipped patrol cars. Officers also patrol on motorcycle, bicycle and on foot.
The newest member of the Department is "Scout", a German Shepherd from Czechoslovakia. Scout received training from his home country and at the Von der Haus Gill Police K-9 Academy in Wapakoneta. Ptl. Brian Parker is Scout's handler.
Officers have specialized training in such areas as accident reconstruction, polygraph examination, crime scene processing, drug investigations and crime prevention to name a few. The Department is also an active member of the Grand Lake Task Force.
The Department's 24-hour Dispatch Center also dispatches for the City of St. Marys Fire Department. All of Auglaize County operates under the enhanced 9-1-1 system.
Officers with the City of St. Marys Police Department are trained and equipped to respond to any crisis that may occur. Our training programs are continually evaluated and our vehicles and equipment are periodically upgraded and/or replaced.

The City of St. Marys Police Department provides a wide variety of services to the community, including traditional law enforcement duties such as: crime prevention, apprehending criminals, traffic regulation and patrol functions. The City of St. Marys Police Department also provides non-law enforcement duties such as: crisis intervention and mediation, coordinating fire runs, emergency medical services, utility services, and public education. The City of St. Marys Police Department also maintains a real time link through the use of the Law Enforcement Automated Data System, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification, the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the National Crime Information Center, as well as numerous other international, federal, and state agencies. The Department also houses the City of St. Marys Emergency Operations Center in the lower level of the building.
Officers of the City of St. Marys Police Department are skilled in the various law enforcement disciplines, such as, traffic accident investigation, crime scene investigation, photography, interview and interrogation techniques, defensive driving, and communications, as well as other investigative skills.
