In an effort to increase efficiency and streamline operations, the City of St. Marys Tax and Utility Office will be changing its hours of operation. Starting on Feb. 5, 2018, the Tax and Utility Office will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The change will help the tax and utility clerks better serve customers.
“It is our experience that utility customers and tax payers find the earlier office time more convenient,” Tax Commissioner Angie Brown said.
In addition, the Tax Department will be open from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 14 to help with those filing local municipal income taxes. The deadline to file taxes this year is April 17.
In recent months, the Tax and Utility Office has implemented several changes to help customers. There are two drop boxes for customers to use to pay utility bills. One is located in the front of the building and one is located in the lower parking lot off High Street. Each one is checked daily. Customers also can sign up for direct payment for utility bills, which automatically deducts payments from a checking account. Customers also can use the drive-thru to pay bills. If paying with cash at the drive-thru, customers are encouraged to have the full bill or late statement as these will be stamped and serve as receipt of payment.
