Beginning today, March 1st, and for the next 3 to 5 days, City employees will be placing a door hanger notice on the front door of all residents to inform you about the upcoming implementation of the advanced metering infrastructure for our water and electric utilities. Below is the information on the notice. Please contact the Utility Office at (419) 394-3303 if you have any questions. Thank you.
Notice to Customers
As part of our ongoing commitment to maintain a high quality of life for our citizens through cost-effective, innovative systems, contractors (Utility Metering Solutions) working for the City of St. Marys will implement an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) system for our water and electric utilities.
The project includes enhancing nearly every residential and commercial water and electric meter with new, state-of-the art technology that can wirelessly communicate usage data to the utility. We will start upgrading the system in April, a process that is expected to take 5-6 months to complete. Once installed, advanced meter technology will be able to collect multiple remote meter reads each day, allowing for better water leak detection and improved utility customer service.
For INSIDE WATER METERS, a postcard will be sent to the property 2-4 weeks prior to the planned installation with instructions for appointment scheduling. For those INSIDE WATER METERS, please ensure an adult (18 or older) is home at the scheduled time to provide access to our service technician.
For OUTSIDE WATER and ELECTRIC meters, an appointment is not necessary and will not be scheduled. Before leaving the property, a door hanger will be left at the main entrance to the property informing the residents of the status of the visit.
The City of St Marys and Utility Metering Solutions team thank you for your cooperation in making this a successful program.
