Fire Department Annual Chicken BBQ

The City of St. Marys Fire Department is holding their annual chicken BBQ, Thursday, April 30th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Dinners are $7.00 each and include ½ chicken, bag of chips, dinner roll, applesauce, and a bottle of water.  Dinners are for carry-out only and can be picked up at the St.

Tree City USA Award

The City of St. Marys was awarded a Tree City USA Award for its commitment to tree beautification and urban forestry management.  The 2014 awards ceremony was hosted by the Tree City USA communities of the Village of Mt. Victory and City of Kenton.  Pictured are Greg Foxhoven, Director of Public Service and Safety, Craig Moeller, Supt. of Community Services and Engineering, Mack Kuenning, Supt. of Electric Distribution, and Gregg Clark, Supervisor of Parks and Urban Forestry.   

FREE Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs - UPDATE

The Community and Small Business Manager from Efficiency Smart thanked us for hosting the customer appreciation event last week.  We were able to distribute 1665 CFL’s which calculates to almost 55MW of energy savings.  He expressed that he appreciates St. Marys rejoining their program and looks forward to serving our residents.

If You File And Pay Estimated Quarterly Tax. . .

Individuals and businesses that file and pay quarterly estimated taxes must submit their first quarter estimate by April 15th.  Estimated tax vouchers were mailed out in January along with the Form EZ or Form B.  Please contact the Tax Department if you have any questions.

Gas Aggregation Notification

Residents on the City’s Gas Aggregation program may have received a notice with their Dominion Gas bills regarding a change in gas supplier.  This notice was sent to this area by mistake and should be disregarded.  The gas supplier for residents on the City Gas Aggregation program will continue as IGS Energy with no changes.

Safety Grant Awarded For Ambulance Cot

Ohio BWC Administrator, Steve Buehrer, was on hand today at the City Fire Department to issue a Safety Grant check of $29,829.08 to Mayor Patrick McGowan.  The check is for the purchase of a Stryker Power ambulance cot that raises and lowers the patient with the touch of a button which has proven to reduce spinal loading, resulting in reduced injuries, lost workdays, and workers’ compensation.  The Ohio BWC matches every employer dollar with three dollars on the purchase of equipment to substantially reduce or eliminate injuries and illnesses. 

2015 Self Calculating Form EZ

We now have a fillable, self-calculating Form EZ for individuals and joint filers.  The form accommodates the majority of our taxpayers.  The name of the municipality must be applied before the form will calculate the tax.  The form must also be printed and delivered to our office.  We do not have electronic filing.

City’s New Chief of Police and Police Sergeant

Mark Ernst, a 23 year veteran of the Police Department, was recently promoted to Chief of Police.  Mark has a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice and has served in the Army with the military police.  Chris Green has been promoted to Police Sergeant.  Chris has 12 years of service with the Police Department and has an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice and also served in the Army with the military police.  Congratulations!

Employee Celebrates 35 Years!

In 2013, Dave Sprague, the City of St. Marys most senior employee, completed 35 years of service with the City.  Dave is presently the Superintendent of the Water and Sewer Departments.  He started employment with the City in 1978 as an Operator In Training at the Water Plant and over the years has served as a Lab Technician, Plant Operations Coordinator, and Superintendent of the Water and Sewer Plants.  He currently holds Class III certifications in water supply and wastewater treatment.    

Winterfest and Festival of Lights Photos

The St. Marys Optimist Winterfest was held December 8th.  In addition, the Festival of Lights, sponsored by St. Marys Community Partnership, began on December 8th and continues through Saturday, December 21st.  Below are photos of the activities enjoyed by all including the parade, visiting Santa, live entertainment, living nativity, and ice skating.

Festival of Lights

The St. Marys Community Partnership will be hosting the Festival of Lights at the High Street Park.  It will start in conjunction with the date of St. Marys’ Optimist Club’s Winterfest on Sunday, December 8th and continue then until Saturday, December 21st. The “Festival of Lights” will be open to the public at the High Street Park in St. Marys, Ohio, with hours of operation from 6 PM to 9 PM on Fridays and Saturdays.

Department Welcomes New Firefighter/Paramedic

The City of St. Marys Fire Department welcomes their newest employee, Firefighter/Paramedic Jason Noonan.  Jason is an Army Veteran who served a tour in Afghanistan.  He and his family reside in St. Marys.  Welcome aboard!! 

Self-Defense / Firearms Safety Class - FALL CLASS FULL

The City of St. Marys Police Department is proud to have joined forces with the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office and Wapakoneta Police Department to hold an all day, bi-annual, women’s self-defense and firearms safety class. 

Library Features Touch a Truck

In June, the St. Marys Community Public Library held Touch a Truck day.  The public was able to explore various City vehicles from a Fire truck to Police car, dump truck, backhoe, street sweeper, and lineman truck.  Fun was had by all!

The City of St. Marys Police Department welcomes their newest employee, Officer Lucas Wessel.  Luke is an Army Veteran with two combat tours in Iraq.  He and his family reside in St. Marys.  Welcome aboard!!
