Employee Appreciation Dinner

The 2014 Employee Appreciation Dinner was held on May 7 at the Friendship Center.  A great meal was had by all.  Service awards were presented to employees with 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 years of service.  Special recognition was given to Jo Gruber and Dave Sprague who are both retiring this year.  Below are photos from the event.

Fire Department Annual Chicken BBQ

The City of St. Marys Fire Department is holding their annual chicken BBQ, Thursday, April 30th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Dinners are $7.00 each and include ½ chicken, bag of chips, dinner roll, applesauce, and a bottle of water.  Dinners are for carry-out only and can be picked up at the St.

Tree City USA Award

The City of St. Marys was awarded a Tree City USA Award for its commitment to tree beautification and urban forestry management.  The 2014 awards ceremony was hosted by the Tree City USA communities of the Village of Mt. Victory and City of Kenton.  Pictured are Greg Foxhoven, Director of Public Service and Safety, Craig Moeller, Supt. of Community Services and Engineering, Mack Kuenning, Supt. of Electric Distribution, and Gregg Clark, Supervisor of Parks and Urban Forestry.   

FREE Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs - UPDATE

The Community and Small Business Manager from Efficiency Smart thanked us for hosting the customer appreciation event last week.  We were able to distribute 1665 CFL’s which calculates to almost 55MW of energy savings.  He expressed that he appreciates St. Marys rejoining their program and looks forward to serving our residents.

If You File And Pay Estimated Quarterly Tax. . .

Individuals and businesses that file and pay quarterly estimated taxes must submit their first quarter estimate by April 15th.  Estimated tax vouchers were mailed out in January along with the Form EZ or Form B.  Please contact the Tax Department if you have any questions.

Gas Aggregation Notification

Residents on the City’s Gas Aggregation program may have received a notice with their Dominion Gas bills regarding a change in gas supplier.  This notice was sent to this area by mistake and should be disregarded.  The gas supplier for residents on the City Gas Aggregation program will continue as IGS Energy with no changes.

Safety Grant Awarded For Ambulance Cot

Ohio BWC Administrator, Steve Buehrer, was on hand today at the City Fire Department to issue a Safety Grant check of $29,829.08 to Mayor Patrick McGowan.  The check is for the purchase of a Stryker Power ambulance cot that raises and lowers the patient with the touch of a button which has proven to reduce spinal loading, resulting in reduced injuries, lost workdays, and workers’ compensation.  The Ohio BWC matches every employer dollar with three dollars on the purchase of equipment to substantially reduce or eliminate injuries and illnesses. 

2015 Self Calculating Form EZ

We now have a fillable, self-calculating Form EZ for individuals and joint filers.  The form accommodates the majority of our taxpayers.  The name of the municipality must be applied before the form will calculate the tax.  The form must also be printed and delivered to our office.  We do not have electronic filing.

City’s New Chief of Police and Police Sergeant

Mark Ernst, a 23 year veteran of the Police Department, was recently promoted to Chief of Police.  Mark has a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice and has served in the Army with the military police.  Chris Green has been promoted to Police Sergeant.  Chris has 12 years of service with the Police Department and has an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice and also served in the Army with the military police.  Congratulations!

Employee Celebrates 35 Years!

In 2013, Dave Sprague, the City of St. Marys most senior employee, completed 35 years of service with the City.  Dave is presently the Superintendent of the Water and Sewer Departments.  He started employment with the City in 1978 as an Operator In Training at the Water Plant and over the years has served as a Lab Technician, Plant Operations Coordinator, and Superintendent of the Water and Sewer Plants.  He currently holds Class III certifications in water supply and wastewater treatment.
