EMPLOYMENT:
The hiring process for openings in the City is coordinated
through the Personnel Office. This includes advertising job openings;
receiving and processing employment applications and internal job bids; interviewing,
testing, and maintaining applicable records. The Personnel Office also
maintains all personnel records, assists in conducting new employee orientation
and training, and responds to inquiries from the Ohio Department of Job and Family
Services, Civil Rights Commission, and serves as the Equal Employment
Opportunity Officer for the City.
JOB APPLICATION PROCESS:
The City of St. Marys only accepts applications for
employment when there is a position available.
Applications may be obtained from the Personnel Office. Job openings
are published online and in our local newspaper, The Evening Leader, and occasionally other newspapers. Police and Fire
entry level applicants are tested through the Civil Service Commission.

INSURANCE:
The Personnel Director administers the City's
group health insurance and life insurance. This includes soliciting
quotes, processing related records, serving as a liaison with third party
administrators, and assisting employees in resolving claims issues.
SAFETY:
The Office is also responsible for preparing and
maintaining safety and OSHA records, coordinating employee training programs,
attending safety committee meetings, and meeting with department heads and
employees to field inquiries, and provide information regarding safety and OSHA
procedures.
WORKERS' COMPENSATION:
The Personnel Director processes workers'
compensation claims and serves as liaison with the Bureau of Workers'
Compensation, the City's Managed Care Organization, and our consultant.
The Coordinator works closely with the Director of Public
Service and Safety to ensure proper claims management and attends hearings as
necessary.
DRUGS AND ALCOHOL:
The City of St. Marys supports the Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988 and remains committed to providing a safe work environment and fostering the well-being and health of our employees. The Personnel Office oversees the administration of the CDL
Drug and Alcohol Testing Program as well as other testing programs. The Personnel Director serves as the contact person with the testing facility, counseling services, and
the agency performing our random testing selections.
