The Water Treatment Plant located at 1502 Stienecker Drive went into operation in May of 1948.  The designed capacity of the plant was 1.25 million gallons per day.  In 1970, construction was completed enlarging the plant to a capacity of 2.4 million gallons per day.

St. Marys is fortunate to have an abundant source of excellent quality water from the underground Teays River.  This water source meets all United States E.P.A. drinking water standards.

The water for St. Marys comes from 4 deep wells located south of the City.  These existing wells have a capacity of 4100 gallons per minute or 5.0 million gallons per day.
