SPRING CLEAN-UP - For City Residential Homes Only

 

Spring Clean-Up is for special items only!   Normal tagged garbage must be out on your normal collection day.

 

Items must be at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the day of your pickup.

 

Saturday, May 10 - ALL residents living South of Spring Street, ALL residents living East of the River, and residents living West of the River on the South side of Spring Street.

 

Saturday, May 17 - ALL residents living West of the River, ALL residents living North of Spring Street, and residents living West of the River on the North side of Spring Street.

  • Limited to 1/2 of 1 pickup truck (filled level), not to exceed 400 lbs.

  • No call backs for special items left out on wrong Saturday, put out too late, or too much debris.

  • Items must be bagged, boxed, or bundled.

2008 STREET PROGRAM

 

The following is a list of the streets that will be resurfaced in 2008: 

 

Pear Street (High St. - Armstrong St.)

Tecumseh Drive (Indiana Ave. - Cul-de-sac)

Hendricks Avenue (Gas St. - Axe St.)

West Street (South St. - Jackson St.)

Vine Street (Oil St. - Armstrong St.)

Water Street (Front St. - Jefferson St.)

Greenville Road (Ash St. - Webb St.)

 

The following is a list of streets to be reconstructed in 2008:

 

Woodward Street (Wayne St. - Hackney St.)

Hillcrest Drive (Spruce St. - West End)

Ash Street Railroad Crossing

 

Bids for the 2008 Street Program were opened February 14, 2008, and a contract has been awarded to P.A.B. Construction, Coldwater, Ohio, in the amount of $712,800.50.  Work on the above streets is expected to begin as soon as weather permits.

 


2008 CDBG MAPLE STREET RAILROAD CROSSING PROJECT

 

The railroad crossing on Maple Street will be reconstructed in 2008 by replacing the crossing with concrete and resurfacing Maple Street.

 

Bids for this project were opened February 14, 2008, and a contract has been awarded to P.A.B. Construction, Coldwater, Ohio, in the amount of $42,764.80.  P.A.B. will begin this project as soon as RJ Corman Railroad Company has completed their portion of the project.

 


2007 ISSUE I PROJECT

 

The City will receive Issue I Grant dollars for use in repairing the sanitary sewers in the Uptown area.  Sewer repairs will take place in the following areas:

  • Northeast sewer located west of Spruce Street and south of Gordon Grove.  This portion is located in an existing residential area in the northeast portion of the City.

  • Cotton Mill sanitary sewer located between Spring Street and High Street and between the River and the Canal.  This portion is located in an existing commercial area in the center of the City. - completed.

The project consists of replacing sanitary sewer main lines, manholes, lateral connections, and lift station pumps throughout the City.

 

The northeast sewer will consist of 1100 lin. ft. of 15" sewer main with 5 manholes.  The Cotton Mill sewer will consist of 257 lin. ft. of sewer main with 5 manholes.  The sanitary sewer re-lining project will consist of 1100 ft. of 12" sewer and 400 ft. of 15" sewer main.

 


UTILITY / TAX BUILDING PARKING STRUCTURE

 

R.J. Zachrich, Defiance, Ohio, is nearing completion of this parking structure.  The Utility Office drive-thru window and parking area should be open for business sometime in June.  

 


PARKS

 

As of Monday, March 10th, all City Parks will be operating on summer hours (7:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.). 

 

During 2008 the Parks Department will remove the wood climbers in several parks and replace them with climbing toys.  A new batting cage will be constructed next to diamond #8.

 

The Department will continue through the Spring 2008 with adding dirt and re-working the fields on diamonds #1-#4, #9, & #10.

 


WATER DEPARTMENT

 

Projects scheduled for 2008 include:

  • Repainting the interior of the McKinley Road Water Tower;

  • Installation of a large-diameter water main underneath both the St. Marys River and the Miami & Erie Canal at the north edge of the City;

  • Planning for a water extension to serve the new school site;

  • Work on the distribution system related to the 2008 Street Program; and,

  • Possible water line installation in the Sandy Beach area. 


WASTEWATER DEPARTMENT

 

Peterson Construction has been awarded a contract for the construction of a new Wastewater Treatment Plant.  The company submitted the low bid at $10,950,000, which was $2,785,000 below the Engineer's estimate.  Work is expected to begin in January 2008.

 

Ohio EPA approved our application to fund the new Wastewater Treatment Plant through the Water Pollution Control Loan Fund (WPCLF) Program.  The Program provides low-interest funding for wastewater improvements.  The City received the loan at 3.36% interest, substantially below a rate available through other sources.

 

Other projects scheduled for 2008 include:

  • Completion of the State Issue I Sewer Project.  Construction of a new 15" relief sewer between the intersection of Spruce and Oil Streets and the Northeast Pump Station at the end of Gordon Grove, and a mechanical and electrical upgrade at the Northeast Pump Station is included;

  • Development of an Industrial Pre-Treatment Ordinance per Ohio EPA requirements;

  • Planning for a sanitary sewer extension to serve the new school site; and,

  • Several sanitary sewer repair projects.  Some will be completed using conventional construction methods, while others will utilize newer technology that permits repairs without the need for digging.


FAMILY AQUATIC CENTER

 

One major project is scheduled at the Center for 2008 - repainting the floors in both the Competition Pool and Leisure Pool.
