What do we look for during inspections?: During an inspection we look at many things depending on the type of occupancy. Items include: size of building, electrical and gas shut-offs, hazardous materials, and life safety systems, to name a few.

1. Why are fire inspections required?: The purpose of fire inspections has multiple benefits, not just for the fire department, but for the public as well. The fire department gains knowledge of the buildings in case of an emergency. For the public, fire inspections help make the buildings safer, protecting businesses and the consumers through fire code enforcement. It is the goal of the St. Marys Fire Department to inform and assist property owners with information and guidance in order to comply with the Ohio Fire Code and Life Safety Code. Annual inspections are required and conducted on all commercial properties within the fire department's jurisdiction. Inspections serve to enforce Fire Codes for properties and identify and remedy unsafe, hazardous and/or non-compliant conditions, and also serve to maintain our Emergency 911 database for fire and medical emergencies.
